100 Heads Challenge

A few months back I decided to take on the #100HeadsChallenge started by Ahmed Aldoori, after finding myself completely blown away by John Singer Sargent‘s exceptional portraiture skills. Although I have seen his drawings before and thought they were ‘okay,’ it was only after reading more about his life and actually studying his drawing techniques that I found myself totally impressed by him and being an instant — albeit late — fan of his.

It also really helps a lot when you see a master’s ability through the eyes of another master, whose critique and knowledge of the artist being studied helps add depth and meaning to the subject in focus. I refer, of course, to Cesar Santos, who is an incredible resource for traditional drawing and painting taught in the classic schools of art, and who himself is a truly remarkable artist in contemporary times.

Here are a few of my ‘heads’ so far, which I drew when free time allowed. I have decided to draw at my own pace instead of doing all 100 heads within 10 days as the challenge had originally set up. I will add more new ‘heads’ as I go along, so do visit often to see what else I’ve got going. 🙂 Ciao!
